Nature and Wildlife

3 Days Murchison Falls Tour

Combining the chance to see rhinos, lions, hippos, crocodiles and many more, this tour really packs in some of the best wildlife and sightseeing into a short time.

Accommodation during this trip includes comfortable safari tents a well-situated lodge with hot showers and shared toilet facilities. Your transportation needs are covered by a friendly English-speaking guide driving a 4WD minivan with pop-top roof.

Day 1: Rhino Hike & Enter the Park

Your driver/ guide will pick you up early from your accommodation in Kampala and head north to Ziwa Rhino Sactuary.

Kidepo Valley and Murchison Falls National Parks once hosted both black and white rhinos; however widespread poaching during the Idi Amin era resulted in the disappearance of these majestic animals from the wild. Founded in 1998, Rhino Fund Uganda works to reintroduce black and white rhinos into Uganda. They run a breeding program, as well as working to educate communities on these endangered giants, the problem of poaching and the need for environmental conservation.

In the Rhino Sanctuary you will have a safari-hike to the rhinos which will give you the opportunity to view them at close range.

After having had lunch at the Rhino Sanctuary, you continue to Uganda's largest national park (3 hrs driving), where you can relax the rest of the afternoon.

Day 2: Wildlife Viewing by Land and Water

This morning, you get up for an early breakfast and have an early start on your game drive through Murchison Falls N.P., while the animals are the most active. In the early morning hours animals are the most active, the sun is not yet so bright and temperatures are cooler. It offers the best time to spot wild animals. Your game drive will be in the northern part of the park.

A drive through the park brings you eye-to-eye with the African animal kingdom: elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, different species of antelope and many tropical birds. They are all there in Murchison Falls!

In the afternoon, you take a boat safari towards the base of Murchison Falls. Carefully watched by crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, apes and all the other thirsty wildlife that the Nile attracts, your boat will arrive to the bottom of the 43-meter-high Murchison Falls, which approaches you with a thunderous sound. Your guide will be able to point out the famous spot where Hemingway's plane went down.

Being in a boat brings you close to the animals and offers you fantastic photo opportunities!

After the boat safari you will return back to your lodge.

Day 3: Top of the Falls & Return to Kampala

After an early breakfast and picking up a packed lunch, you will stop at the top of the Waterfall on the way out of the park. See where the world's longest river explodes violently through a narrow cleft in the Rift Valley escarpment to plunge into a frothing pool 43m below.

From here you drive back to Kampala. Your driver/guide drops you at your accommodation in Kampala
