Nature and Wildlife

3 Days Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth is Uganda’s second largest park, located at the base of the majestic Rwenzori Mountain range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. The park has prolific game, including gazelle, Uganda kob, warthog and waterbuck. Lions are often sighted both in and at the entrance to the park. Be prepared for huge numbers of hippo and elephant, and keep your eyes peeled for a leopard lazing in the sunshine.

Accommodation during this trip includes private rooms in a well-situated lodge with hot showers and eco-toilets. Your transportation needs are covered by a friendly English-speaking guide driving a 4WD minivan with pop-top roof.

Day 1: To Queen Elizabeth via Fort Portal

Your driver/ guide will pick you up early from your accommodation in Kampala to start out towards Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After about 5 hours' driving, you'll stop for lunch in the cozy town Fort Portal (lunch is not inclusive). From here it’s about 3 hours' driving to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Time permitting, you will go for a short game drive into the park.

Watch wildlife at the water's edge from your private verandah and fall asleep to the roaring of lions on the distant savannah. This truly is Africa!

Day 2: Wildlife Viewing by Land and Water

Today you wake up early. After an early breakfast, you go for a long game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, starting just in time to see the sun rise. In the cooler hours of the early mornings or in the late afternoons the animals are generally the most active.

On your game drive this morning you will search for all the wildlife in the park. You will search for all the wildlife in the park: from elephant and buffalo, to lion, Uganda kob and the ever-present warthog. Also, keep your eyes open for a leopard!

After lunch, you will take a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel where you will see a lot of hippos, as well as a variety of other animals which come to the banks to drink or bathe. You can expect to see buffalo, crocodile, elephant families, and a wide range of beautiful birds. This will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your tour.

After the boat-safari you game drive back to the lodge with the hope that the cooler evening hours will tempt a leopard or lion to cross your path.
